“For me, there’s something profoundly human about Konstrundan. Meeting artists, talking with them, and engaging with their art bring so many meaningful moments to life. Time and again, I’m struck by the richness and diversity of creative expression across this country.”
Since September, Konstrundan has a new project manager. Anniina Dunder-Berg has a background in jewellery design and has, over the past fifteen years, worked extensively within the fields of art, design, leadership, and cultural projects. Previously, she has worked as CEO of a small goldsmith company and as executive director of Design District Helsinki.
Alongside her work at Konstrundan, Anniina is a visual artist herself, working mainly with oil painting and dry pastel drawing. She has also collaborated for several years with dance artist Katriina Kantola. Together they have created two interdisciplinary performances that have been shown nearly thirty times in the Helsinki metropolitan area and in Mariehamn.
Her studio is located at Studio BOM, a creative collective she founded and now runs together with Piia Jalkanen and Päivi Keski-Pomppu. The collective includes eight artists and designers who share the space and curate exhibitions together.
Anniina is also a birdwatcher, something that strongly influences her art. Over the past year, she has been working on an oil painting series titled Only Empty Rooms Remain. The series is an ongoing process through which she explores her grief over the decline of birdlife and the alarming decrease in many species. The paintings depict human-made rooms and spaces where no signs of life remain.
