Photography
As a writer, museum director/curator and visual artist my entire career has been dedicated to the photographic medium. As a curator I have looked at, organized and engaged with the medium from its invention to contemporary works. The process for a good curator is parallel to the creative process of art making. Curation, at its essence, is taking other people’s photographs, be it 19th or 20th century, and reinterpreting it for the viewer. That same approach is central to my current series. Only the images are a combination of vintage images and my own photographs.
Examples of my current project, Somnium, will be presented as an informal exhibition in my studio. My art has always about the manipulation of photographs—from physically layering images, sewing, hand-coloring, to photographing the dichotomy of reality verses the artificiality of museum dioramas. The new work brings all of these ideas together in a seamless visual narrative. As a trained educator I am very open to share my process and experience with others.
The art and well-being center Hub Feenix is located in Raasepori, one hour west of Helsinki (an hour from Turku as well), 10 km from Karjaa towards Lohja by the Hanko-Hyvinkää road between Karjaa and Mustio.
