Information about the artist / the group
I'm ceramicist Merja Pohjonen. The ceramics education was completed at the University of Art and Design Helsinki in 1980. I live in this house and also work as a freelancer here in my own studio. There is a workshop on the ground floor and the exhibition rooms on the upper floor. I make ceramics, art and utensils of different clay qualities and with many hand-building techniques and with the potter's wheel. I burn my works in an electric, wood, gas oven and with a mile. I have worked as a visual arts teacher at a children's art school and taught ceramics courses for adults at the Kokkola Region Institute. I still teach even though I am already retired from teaching.
Program during Konstrundan
During the Open Studios Konstrunda weekend, visitors get to see my workspace and the finished works in the gallery. Weather permitting, there will be an ancient furnace in the garden throughout the weekend and it will open on Sunday one hour before the end of the event. Visitors can try spinning with a kick wheel and mold clay into a small object.
Driving directions
When driving from the centre of Kokkola, drive towards Oulu along the E8 road past Vittsars Shell and take the next junction on the right, Vessintie. Turn left at the next intersection, Vanha Ouluantie. Drive left until the road ends. The house on the left side is a Konstrundan stop.
