Painting
Virva Svala (b. Haapajärvi) is a Helsinki-based artist working with oil, acrylic, and watercolor. Her works explore semi-abstract landscapes and subtle interpretations of light and nature. Svala’s calm, layered painting process creates dreamlike worlds where reality and imagination intertwine. Her inspiration often comes from nocturnal cityscapes, flowers, birds, and animals, as well as everyday landscapes and memories. She holds a Master of Arts degree from the University of Art and Design Helsinki and has also studied at the Open Art School. Svala has worked as a visual arts teacher, held several exhibitions, and currently works at Taidetila Viiiiis in Kallio, Helsinki.
A joint art exhibition with the artists working at Taidetila Viiiiisi displayed on our studio’s gallery wall. Visitors can also observe our working process.
