I am an architect originally from Germany, and for the past 30 years, I’ve had the privilege of living and working in Helsinki. My time here has deeply shaped how I understand design. Scandinavian design, at its core, draws inspiration from principles found in nature. It distills them into minimalistic design concepts, while focusing on functionality and valuing craftsmanship as well as sustainability. LUO-light was born out of my own personal cross-cultural design journey.
Imagine Northern lights—those curved, dynamic waves of light that dance across the sky. Or think of a clear Finnish summer day, where light shifts from a cool, sharp clarity at noon to a soft golden glow at midnight. LUO brings that natural progression of light indoors—into our homes, workplaces, and cultural spaces.
We will present our lighting inventions to the public. The luminaires are interactive, allowing visitors to intuitively engage with them—changing their shape and influencing the light output to create anything from intimate decorative atmospheres to fully functional lighting. Some of the lights can also be controlled via smartphone, enabling visitors to design custom lighting scenes or even create dynamic animations. In addition, we will hand out free scale models of our LUO lighting system.
