Maija Vanhatapio is a visual artist and graphic designer based in Kajaani and a member of the Oulu Artists’ Association 63. Trained as a graphic designer at the School of Arts and Crafts, she has worked in advertising in Tampere and later ran her own studio in Rovaniemi. She has also completed open art studies and courses at the University of Lapland. She has held numerous solo exhibitions and participated in group shows in Finland and abroad, with works selected for international Open Call exhibitions and publications.
Her art consists of impressionistic interpretations using charcoal and pastel lines, acrylic and oil colour fields, and mixed‑media collages such as shaped paper.
In the gallery she presents her work, discussing the creation process and techniques. The exhibition continues through the staircase and upper hall to her studio. There you can see art materials, works in various stages of completion, and the tools and techniques she uses. During the day, depending on visitors’ interests, she demonstrates how a monoprint is created using gel plates and/or how a paper collage is built.
