Maria Kärkkäinen is a photographic artist based in Kuopio. Photography is her primary medium, and depending on the content and project she also works in interdisciplinary contexts. Making art is her way of understanding and structuring the world and its phenomena by rendering them visually visible. Her practice is process-oriented and characterised by experimentation, incompleteness and duration in materials, techniques and themes. She has worked as an artist since 2010 and holds a Master's degree in Contemporary Contexts of Art. Her works have been exhibited in Finland, Spain and Birmingham, United Kingdom, and are included in the collections of the Kuopio and Jyväskylä art museums as well as in private collections.
During Konstrundan, visitors can explore works from different periods, ongoing processes and the artist’s working methods. Finished prints and works will be presented alongside projects in progress. The visit offers space for discussion and insight into her artistic practice.
