Information about the artist / the group

Ivan Kostiurin is an artist and animator with an architectural education. His practice encompasses video art, traditional animation techniques, painting, graphic art, and creative collaboration with artificial intelligence.

His work brings together the aesthetics of 1920s animation, the visual language of German Expressionism, and a sustained interest in archaic art and folklore. He is engaged by the convergence of genres and disciplines that arise at the intersection of cinema, theatre, and painting.

In his practice, a painting becomes a film, a landscape unfolds as a map, a dream image, and a schematic of a fantastical mechanism at once, while animation reveals itself as a document of the process behind the creation of a graphic work.

Program during Konstrundan

During the Konstrundan weekend, five local cultural workers will present their art at the historic artist home Villa Sveden. Both the main building and the gallery building will be open, as well as the beautiful, lush garden. Coffee and pastries will be available for a small fee.
