This year’s assignment, Colours from the Kitchen, has been designed by artist and educator Alejandra Löthman. In the video, Alejandra demonstrates how ingredients such as red cabbage, beetroot, turmeric, coffee, lemon, and vinegar can be used as paints. The activity invites children to experiment playfully with colour, where acidic meets basic, and to discover that colours can be found everywhere, even in the kitchen. This year’s film is produced by the Åland-based production company Luvid Films. The video will be sent to all primary schools in Finland, and the assignment will also be launched via YouTube and konstrundan.fi.
Art Friday has been organised since 2012 and has grown into a valued and awaited part of the school year. The free, art-based event has many positive effects: it supports children’s well-being, imagination, and self-esteem, while ensuring equal access to art regardless of background.
In addition to the video, art workshops will be arranged at Luckan in Porvoo, Helsinki, and Kirkkonummi.
Art Friday is an invaluable platform that inspires the next generation to explore art and creativity. The event is made possible with support from, among others, Stiftelsen Brita Maria Renlunds minne sr.
