1. Maarit Magga - Duodjevisti Styyga

Käsivarrentie 237, Palojoensuu
I am a long-time Sámi craftsperson, a duojár. Today, I work as both an artist and a researcher. I hold a doctorate in Sámi aesthetics and the multisensory dimensions of duodji. Research and the practice of duodji intertwine naturally in my work. I am interested in creating artistic duodji from leftover materials that remain from traditional duodji production. The reindeer and the materials it provides are central to my work, but I also make use of fabrics, threads, and other suitable remnants from duodji sewing. In my art, I explore contemporary phenomena. At the moment, I am particularly interested in issues related to climate change: How does climate change manifest in everyday life? How can I apply the principles of duodji within the demands of modern technology?

I am a painter, photographer and photo artist. In my artistic work in recent years, I have mainly painted. The diversity of life is free to be present with all its joys and sorrows in the creation of works. The harmony and contradiction of forms, the contrast and harmony of colors, twilight and light form a pair of sleighs that, in their immateriality, lead us to grasp the boundless possibility of the material essence concretely. Human nature and nature bloom when it’s time. Everything is not always so wonderful. Interactivity between people and current phenomena often create story-related elements in the world of colors, lights and shadows.

With a gesture, I underline my independent female citizenship in my contemporary society as well as my multidisciplinary art work as an independent artist. With my outputs – as I call my works and situations where I present my work and my forms in – I comment on social and societal ties. My field of movement extends from performance art to digital image processing. I aim for an evaluative grasp both with my choice of space and the final shape of the implementation despite the art form.

It is this surprise that excites me. My art is inspired by Finnish nature, fire, smoke, reduction, works containing geometric shapes, often influenced by northern animals and birds, plants. I work mainly playing with the contrasts of the smoke and white glaze, as well as the shades of blue and green, and the lustre effect of the reduction phase of raku- firing. Although the painting changes during the process, it always includes the previous layers and their effects on the final result. The process of creating a work is in a certain way consistent with the changes in human life. In my work, I deal with, among other things, these questions related to time and the processes of change. However, my basic theme of the studio did not change. The topics come from history, antiquity, long time, deep time. Kärsämäentie 35, Turku
Maria Liitola, Fine Artist, Master of Fine Arts. I live and work in Turku. I first picked up a brush when I was 8 years old, when I started studying oil painting at a local artist's studio. I started studying fine arts right after finishing comprehensive school, and I am still on that path. I have completed 11 semesters of study, and I have worked as a visual artist full-time the rest of the time. I paint using a combination technique: The works are often based on a charcoal drawing and acrylic painting, which I continue with spray and oil paint techniques. The themes of the works touch on the exploration of the concept of existence. The images often feature a person, and the works are partly photorealistically executed.

I am from Eckerö on the Åland-islands but since the 1980s I have lived and worked as a visual artist and as a teacher in Turku. My origins as a fisherman's son and the fact that I grew up in the countryside have certainly colored my artistic expression, not only in terms of themes, but perhaps rather when it comes to moods and reflecting my view of life in my art. In my paintings, I strive to convey something that I myself call "a longing without loss". A kind of realistic, universal and pragmatic way of tackling existential challenges.

My art emerges at the edges of everyday life and on the terms of the process itself. I work in a material-driven and experimental way, often with recycled and modest tools. I am drawn to incompleteness, permissiveness, and to the way a piece can build slowly, layer by layer, leaving room for insight. My artistic thinking has been shaped by teaching weaving as well as by long experience in various creative and wellbeing-oriented facilitation roles. The rhythm, repetition, and patience inherent in weaving are reflected in my way of allowing works to grow one element at a time. Training as an expressive art therapy facilitator has deepened my relationship with the emergence of the image. For me, art is not primarily about representation, but about exploration and creating connections.

I think of my working process as an everyday horizon into which experiences, observations and the coincidences of daily life are imprinted and stored. Any point on the horizon is worthy of examination. My works are formed through layers, using oil color, tempera, acrylic, beeswax, ink, charcoal and pencil. Through these methods, images, colors, figures and texts are recorded onto the surface in layers. Time and place, fact and memory become intertwined

I graduated in 2008 with a master's degree in art, but I have also worked in the social field and am currently studying to become a socionomist in Pori Diak. Working together and helping others is a meaningful and good counterbalance to making art. 175. Hans-Christian Berg – HCBERG SHOWROOM

Västankvarnintie 377, Inkoo As
HC BERG creates traditional and digitally created art and optical installations that challenge our current perception of reality at the intersection of gravity-dependent visual reality and AI-generative dreamlike reality. HC BERG curates the AI world to create concepts that support HC Berg's artistic goals and expression, and creates a new dimension to my artistic expression. The artworks visually seduce and challenge the viewer to playfully discover and explore the hidden artistic expression through ingenious digitally developed "visual illusions" - a way to master our belief in this common future challenge that we face in the near future.

177. Viktoria Dragon

Takojanpolku 2, Inkoo
Viktoria’s artistic practice is rooted in an intuitive and process-based approach to abstraction. Her work engages with nature not as a direct subject, but as a silent witness — a space where organic forms, memory, and internal states intersect. Plants, natural rhythms, and everyday surroundings serve as starting points for compositions that evolve gradually over time. Her paintings are developed in multiple layers and stages, often over extended periods, allowing the work to unfold through observation and reflection rather than predetermined outcomes. This slow methodology emphasizes material presence, surface, and subtle shifts in tone and texture. Viktoria works primarily with acrylics and mixed media, and drawing on more than thirty years of experience with oil painting.

I paint based on reality and observations of both the outer and inner worlds. I strive to highlight the beauty and goodness around us, while also raising questions and bringing forward what is unseen or rarely discussed. My paintings often become abstract yet expressive, and I always carry my own narratives within them. An essential part of my drive is an enduring curiosity — a constant desire to learn and discover new things. A spill of milk on the table can become the impulse and the beginning of a landscape, a painting, or an entire series of works. I am also an idealist who believes in change and in the importance of every small contribution. I engage with environmental issues, human well-being, and existential questions. I want to offer hope and joy despite the heaviness and hopeles

As a textile artist and designer, I explore the dialogue between art, craft, and industrial products. I am inspired by placing the new and the old, the broken and the whole side by side, and through fragmentation I seek to express depth and contradiction. Arte Povera and “junk art” are key influences in my work, which I combine with strong forms and bold colors. I am also a designer and have created various interior textiles for several Finnish manufacturers, especially rugs and ryas. My playful mini-textile concept Reblok @myreblok, designed to be endlessly reconfigured for different spaces, can be ordered directly from me. I studied classical painting in the Renaissance city of Florence, and I would say that Renaissance blooms also in my work as it covers painting, photography, cyanotype and works with natural materials. I am inspired by collective subconscious and also by forests and animals. Animals have always had important roles in mythology around the world, and those ancient stories are sometimes reflected in my work. Symbolism has also been something I’ve studied, and I often use symbols in my work to weave together different meanings. I do hope though that my paintings speak to the viewers also intuitively, and that you sense positive energy as you pause for a while to study them.

I have lived with art and the spirit world since childhood. The connection existed before I could name it. I did not learn it, I learned to be with them. My art is the natural form of this connection. I am an artist who does not look for subjects. The subject finds me. I work with the spirit world. The message is not born from a thought, but from a connection that takes over the space. I paint with the spirit world. The messages of the spirit world want to become visible through me. I paint soulful, energetic messages for each viewer. Not a general message, but a personal encounter. When I paint, I do not decide what is created. I give the space, and the message takes shape.

I also use natural materials in my works. I primarily paint by combining cold wax with oil paints. It is an ancient technique that is less widely known today. A surreal level is hidden in the realistic depiction of people: People are made of natural materials. The destruction of nature created by man is symbolized by a geometric pattern that eats up the earth and leaves behind the white emptiness of the paper. Nature in a person represents hope: From the inside of a stone or wooden person, all sensitivities emerge, e.g. in the form of algae, moss, flowers, fruit, insects, reptiles, resin and lava.

All my pictures are fleeting impressions in a way. The people in my pictures are allegorical. I have studied art all my life. I did two master's degrees and a doctoral dissertation on the importance of art and culture in the surrounding society. My pictures contain references, especially from Western art history. When I paint, I keep the darkness at bay. That is perhaps the most important motive for my painting.

I am a painter who graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in 1989. I paint both small and large oil paintings, in which light and subtle variations in color play a key role in creating a sense of space. The subject of my most recent exhibition at Gallery A2 was a stream from my hometown of Kajaani. I have also painted extensively, inspired by Andalusia in Spain, Egypt, Tanzania, and Morocco. In addition to nature and landscapes, my subjects include architectural forms such as columns, stairs, and water. My paintings are included in the collections of the HAM Art Museum, among others. My paintings are abstract or semi abstract. For me, art is a way of life and a way of dealing with things. The process is open and unplanned. Failure is also an opportunity. Watch out for wet paint! Surprises are always possible! To quote Pessi Rautio, The Editor-in-Chief of Taidelehti: ”Märkälä wants to paint, to bring out the good on the top, so the process must end in something hopeful, full of oxygen and life, light, even what is beautiful.” ”To Märkälä, the world includes objects, good ones that simply must be depicted through painting, not least because they make such good paintings.” The whole text: www.maariamarkala.com

Creative work is the most natural way for me to connect with myself and the world around me. I am interested in different techniques and structures, and I paint on plexiglass and use various recycled materials in my works. I'm a portrayer of humanity. The themes of my works include spiritual values, well-being, spiritual growth, femininity, masculinity, motherhood, sensitivity, nature, and universality. These themes often appear in human faces, with which I engage in dialogue. Their expressions convey things that are often difficult to put into words. Art is way of life and spiritual home.

I am an encaustic painter from Helsinki. I paint with beeswax, which is a technique that is over 2000 years old and originated in Greece. Encaustic means "to burn in": Different layers of wax are attached to each other with fire. The nature of beeswax is excellent for abstract paintings, strong three-dimensional structures and also collages. I also compose music and have painted my own compositions as well as composed my paintings. Spirituality is important to me and it is reflected in many of my works.

My practice merges abstract painting, collage and digital techniques to explore themes of technology, logical systems and power. Recurring symbols—skulls, chess pieces, and dice—reference mortality, strategy, and chance, touching on themes of control and unpredictability. Recent works incorporate AI-generated images based on my own paintings, which are printed and used as collage, emphasizing the physicality of the art object. While AI plays a role in my process, its limitations and ethical implications remain a central theme. Originally from the U.S., I lived in New York before moving to Helsinki. My work has been included in over 60 exhibitions internationally, with pieces in museum and private collections.

He experiments in color area painting with colored pencils. He also builds sculptures and installations. He is influenced by the phenomena of space, metaphysics and music. Nokelainen's works often with a real model (e.g. a person, a stuffed animal toy or a plant), but the working can also start with an abstract idea, a news headline or an inner feeling. In the flow state, he is free from his own limitations and feels like an instrument of the universal spirit of art.

I am particularly interested in the histories that linger within images — the ways in which ethnographic and colonial representations continue to define our collective perception of the “Other.” Through this lens, I seek to understand how photography participates in systems of power, but also how it might open possibilities for re-seeing and re-imagining those relations.

233. Suvi Laine-Karsten – Taiteilijayhteisö Kolmas Kerros

Hämeentie 157, Helsinki
As a visual artist, I feel that I am merely one of the tools in the creation of art. I begin my work without knowing the final result and usually without any specific goal in mind. I feel that colors, painting tools, and even the canvas have a will of their own to achieve their own secret objectives.I surrender myself to the process without any preconceptions of my own perfection. The final result, even if at some point I begin to work with greater determination, is always a surprise. My work is guided by my inner visions of the things I ponder and that move me. The work in progress must convey something important, speak to me, before I can stop working on it.The work takes its place in the world in its own meaningful existence. When painting, I prefer to use oil, acrylic, and pastel colors

I create visual art in my studio at Taideyhdistys Tapaus. I paint with acrylics in thin, transparent layers as well as thick, built-up surfaces, often working on several paintings at once. I begin intuitively and refine the work through experience and tested themes, always searching for light and shadow. For me, the most important thing is that a painting is beautiful in its own way and remains engaging to look at. I have been an invited artist at BELA – the European and Latin American Biennial in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil (2023–2024, 2025–2026) and Artist of the Month in HTY’s online gallery (2023, 2025). My technique is metal graphics – etching, aquatint, and chine collé. While I have found my own preferred techniques, I am constantly exploring others, both traditional and new methods. In recent years, I have found cardboard graphics. I strive to create moods in my images that can be found in nature and in the flow of my thoughts. For me, making art is thinking and the process of creating. I feel that the task of art is to awaken its viewer to think and to see the world from a new angle. The process reflects my development as an artist. Nature is diverse with its many visual motifs, although I find myself returning repeatedly to birches. There is depth in the world of wood. Birch is like me – warm white, coal black, and the shadows of leaves moving in the wind.

Animals hold a special place in my imagery and often appear as human-like figures, reflecting emotions and life situations. Through joy, rich colors, and a gentle, caring expression, I aim to create works that resonate with the viewer. I work with both painting and printmaking, and a vibrant use of color is a defining characteristic of my practice.

In my printmaking I am fascinated not only by visual expression but also by the rich, eventful techniques and their various combinations. I usually combine several different techniques and plates. The process requires concentration: it’s just me, my imagination, and the plate. Chance often has a hand in things, and there is a charm in that as well. It must also always be remembered that the image that appears on the paper is a mirror image of the plate. My works often draw inspiration from the environments and architecture I see while traveling. I don’t depict scenes exactly as they are; instead, elements created by my imagination blend into them. My style is generally quite detailed. I want my pieces to bring joy and to give the viewer’s imagination wings. I’m happy to be able to work tog

In this exhibition, I will present a series of black-and-white and colorful ink works created in Morocco, alongside an invitation to step into my studio space. My process began with painting the cliffs and the sea—waters in which I swam and a horizon I crossed between two continents. As I worked, the imagery started to shift. Abstract visions surfaced: strange figures, music, dance, rituals, symbols. A man and a raven, a woman and a snake. People moving along the pathways of life—sometimes rendered with precision, more often as shadows or fleeting suggestions—appearing both within the everyday and within myth. These works arise from the interplay between the visible world and the inner landscape, where observation dissolves into imagination and narrative becomes form.

At that age, many things may seem uncertain and difficult, but at the same time, everything is still possible. My works are silent observations, fleeting glimpses of childhood and innocence, of living in the moment. My paintings also show the longing of an adult, the awareness of the transience of everything, fragility and change, and the end of childhood.

I am an architect originally from Germany, and for the past 30 years, I’ve had the privilege of living and working in Helsinki. My time here has deeply shaped how I understand design. Scandinavian design, at its core, draws inspiration from principles found in nature. It distills them into minimalistic design concepts, while focusing on functionality and valuing craftsmanship as well as sustainability. LUO-light was born out of my own personal cross-cultural design journey. Imagine Northern lights—those curved, dynamic waves of light that dance across the sky. Or think of a clear Finnish summer day, where light shifts from a cool, sharp clarity at noon to a soft golden glow at midnight. LUO brings that natural progression of light indoors—into our homes, workplaces, and cultural spaces.

Bags Born on the Ocean - Crafted From Recycled Sailcloth. The idea was born in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean. A few years ago, I was competing in a transatlantic rowing race. During the 41 day journey from La Gomera to Antigua, I was struck by the heartbreaking amount of debris drifting across the ocean —waste dumped by us humans. The first Beyond Bags came out of old dinghy sails I had lying around. I looked at them and wondered: What story could they tell next? Turning them into bags felt natural—recycled, purposeful, and full of character. I’m an artist who creates one of a kind bags. They have texture, personality, a bit of roughness—small marks of a life already lived. And that’s what makes them special.

It is memories, remembered feelings inscribed in her body that Anu Eskelin puts on the canvas. In this way she connects the outer landscape with her inner one. Influenced by Latin American origins and shaped by Nordic and Asian sensibilities, my work seeks balance, clarity, and attentive presence. Nature plays an important role in my practice. I am especially interested in how different cultures relate to the natural world and find meaning within it. Quiet surroundings, soft light, and stillness shape the way I work. The works invite close looking — quiet surfaces where different cultural rhythms meet and resonate. During Konstrundan, I warmly welcome visitors to take time, look closely, and ask questions about the work and the process.

256. Tiina Nevanperä – Ateljee Mignon / Artborg 35

Pilvilinnantie 2, Sipoo
Tiina Nevanperä is known for her colorful paintings. Typical of her paintings is the extravagant seduction of colors, which fills both the canvas and the viewer's mind. Tiina Nevanperä's paintings are characterized by a physical painting style and an organic and exuberant use of colors. In the almost abstract paintings, recognizable elements can be found: vegetation, flowers, shoots, intersections and other things related to the surrounding nature, but also those referring to ornamentation and mysticism. Tiina Nevanperä's paintings contain the hidden transience of the feeling of being, constant change and possible views towards the future. Tiina Nevanperä's paintings bind together the visible and the hint of the invisible.

I am a visual artist and ceramicist from Sipoo, with a Master of Arts degree. The starting point of my works is often the need to explore current phenomena that are important to me. The subjects of my recent paintings have been drawn from the local nature and my own garden. Trees and reflections are elements that have been present in my works for a long time. Painting them is a continuous exploration. Ceramics has been my artistic expression since childhood. I use hand-building techniques in my work. "The ceramic ladies" have been a project that has been going on for a few years now, and they are inspired by my favorite childhood books, written by the Swedish author Elsa Beskow. The ladies are also influenced by the works of Henri Matisse.

I have transitioned my artistic practice into a unified framework called ScandArabian Art, following the completion of my work under the name Meri Helmi Särkkä. This transition is not a rejection of my past, but a consolidation of it. ScandArabian Art represents the merging of my artistic languages into one solid and coherent form. It brings together the technical foundation of my drawing practice with installation, ceramics, video, and fine art, extending into objects designed to live within domestic space as meaningful home decor. Drawing remains the root. It is the discipline through which I understand structure, proportion, and presence. Around it, other media expand the work into physical, spatial, and lived experience. This shift reflects a return to clarity. The work is no longe

I am many. The experiences gained along life’s paths give substance to my art. In my artistic expression, I am both a colorist and a creator of representational and abstract imagery. Nature, colors, everyday stories, and global phenomena often serve as my sources of inspiration. In my choice of materials, I strive to make use of recycling. I may paint a work on birch plywood previously used at a construction site, or incorporate leftover construction paints or other “waste materials” into my artworks. I am a member of the Artists’ Association of Finland since 2021. When I was accepted, the jury described me as follows: “You are broad in your expression, you bring light forward with delicate beauty, and allow different forms to converse within your works, challenging the viewer.

I was born and raised in Helsinki, where i received great inspiration for graffiti art back in the 80`s. My interest in that art form has remained throughout my life and continues to guide my work as an active graffiti painter and visual artist. The painting process is influenced by observing the environment and drawing the image it produces on my retina, which then flows through the brush onto canvas. Strong colors merge, inspired by nature`s wild color palette. I use the term free artist for myself, who combines graffiti and the noise of nature into a unique interpretation.

I have been working as a full time artist in fine arts since 2017 I moved from Helsinki to the countryside. In all of my work I most enjoy the finding out where my intuition leads me and the learning. I can pick up any means and head always on the road not knowing where it will end up. For my inspiration I look for the unity of humans, animals and all nature. I often picture animals strong and humans vulnerable. Sometimes people and animals mix together. Despite of being incomplete the human being is part of nature which in its own right is perfect.
